GEMCO has recently added the Peel or Tensile Test Unit to help the packaging industry test material strength and seal strength. The unit reduces customer complaints by testing the seal to ensure that the package is easy to open maintaining quality seal integrity, ensuring high-shelf life.
HOW IT WORKS
The new Peel/Tensile strength unit will measure the pressure it takes to tear the package seal. It is very simple to operate. Simply cut a 1 inch wide sample from your bag and clamp it under the cylinders. The fixed side is attached to a load cell.
Once you start the test, the electric actuator will stretch the seal. The controller will display the max force needed to tear the seal. 100 tests can be stored in the memory and we can average up to 99 test results. The unit will travel up to 100 inches per minuet with a max force of 35 lbs.
Most customers run this unit at 10 inches per minute and most of the seals max force is around 2 to 5 pounds. All measurements can be changed to metric and newtons. This unit is portable, weighs 28 pounds and can be used any place in the plant that has access to plant air pressure and 110 volts ac.
